Natural Remedies for Anxiety

Some of those who are diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder may not want to resort to medication immediately, and often try herbal remedies first. Here we take a look at some of the natural ways that you can help soothe your anxiety problems.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is actually a group of B vitamins that are essential for a whole range of things within the body. They are good for breaking down fats and proteins which aids the normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as things like your skin, hair, and eyes. You can take supplements to boost your intake.

Massage

Massage relieves nervous energy, unknots tense muscles and gets rid of stress. It can loosen you up so your heart rate is reduced, aids better posture and promotes sleep.  A full body massage helps may of the body’s systems to function better including the nervous system. Afterwards you should drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and you should try to be calm and not rush around.

Ideally go for a mobile practitioner or someone who is training, as they are not pushed for time, and you are able to build up more of a relationship with them.

Aromatherapy

This type of therapy stimulates our sense of smell. Fragrances have an impact on the way you feel and can evoke memories. Frankincense and neroli are two oils most often recommended for anxiety. Frankincense helps to open up your airways and allows you to breathe better, so you don’t hyperventilate. Neroli helps to calm and can often stop full blown panic attacks from occurring. Lavender is also known for its calming affects. Chamomile is also known to calm nerves and in tea form as well as an essential oil.

There are a number of ways you can use aromatherapy, from a couple of drops of essential oils in your bath to drops in your washing machine. Choose the one that is best for you.

St John’s Wort

This is an herb that has been used for centuries to cure depression, anxiety and sleep disorders. It is effective in treating mild to moderate depression and anxiety, but won’t really help when it comes to severe illness. There may however be some side effects and it doesn’t mix well with other medication. It is advisable to check with your doctor before you start taking it.
