Make sure that they use sterile single use needles also if a sick person is stuck with a needle and then it is used on you it could make you sick. Choose a professional acupuncturist that is licensed. In most states, a licensed massage therapist has had to complete some form of schooling and pass a test to receive their license. An acupuncturist should be reputable and trustworthy. Make sure you are completely comfortable with your acupuncturist so that you will have confidence when they are doing the treatment.
