What is Acupuncture & Its Benefits?

What is acupuncture? It's a holistic treatment, derived from traditional Chinese medicine, used for internal and external pain while also restoring your normal bodily functions. Along with ridding your body of pain, this practice is used for a range of issues in both the mind and body. Although there isn't much science to back up these claims, the experience of those who have tried it will make your beliefs in this treatment much stronger.

Finding an acupuncture therapist that you trust with good client reviews and testimonials is something that can completely change the way you feel in both your mind and body. Whether you are dealing with pain from an injury, pregnancy pain, infertility issues, pain that comes with old age, or just your average backache, they can all be fixed through the therapy of acupuncture.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

An initial consultation is needed before your acupuncture appointment to confirm that you are a good candidate for this type of traditional medicine.

After this, you are free to go to your appointment which usually lasts about 30-45 minutes. During the session, depending on your area of pain, very fine needles are sent through the skin into specific points on your body and are left there for a few minutes at different depths depending on the issue at hand.

There are many different ways this is proceeded through based on the practitioner you visit, but the results should remain the same. The number of sessions you might need in order to rid your pain will vary based on the intensity and location of the pain or discomfort you may have.

After your first session, your practitioner will give you an evaluation of what you can expect in terms of immediate results, and how many more sessions you might need. Depending on how long the pain has been felt is an important factor when determining how many treatments you might need to cure you of your pain. For example, if you have had chronic back pain for over 20 years, this will take longer to cure than someone who might have had the same pain for a year or so. Obviously, the intensity of the pain will be another factor considered, as well as other determinants the doctor will let you know.

Results of Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been proved to lessen the pain of many different cases involving lower and upper back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, knee pain, joint pain and discomfort, pregnancy pain, migraines, headaches, and much more.

Although not much scientific evidence has been produced, the World Health Organization has a list of conditions acupuncture is proven to be effective for, such as: nausea and discomfort from chemotherapy, migraines, sprains, sciatica, reducing stroke risks, dental discomfort, tennis elbow, and even inducing labor! These claims from the World Health Organization in 2003 helped to spread the use and belief in acupuncture throughout the United States, as well as other countries. Without the back of the WHO, this treatment would not be as mainstream and easily accessible as it is today. We strongly believe in acupuncture as a form of healing for the mind and body and know it can help so many people who might think the only thing they can turn to is modern medicine and medication. Give your body a break, stop trying to mask your pain with meds, and get to the underlying root cause of your issues. This is the only way to rid yourself of them for good!
